Here's the companion piece to the article about depression era faux food and recipes. Both suggest substituting other household ingredients but these recipes seem more modern, vegetarian and diet oriented. Seeing as the first two are from Weight Watchers it makes sense. Also Gundella was sick with cancer at this time and only had a year or so left to live so she was probably eating healthier to maintain her strength.
