Occult Stores, Sects Fill Religious Gap Here

Detroit Free Press, August 28, 1971 (enlarge)
This article is rather convenient since it's a feature on occult bookstores in the Detroit-Ann Arbor area in the summer of 1971 and there is a new mystical store opening in Wayne in the next month or so.

Mentioned in the piece are The Mayflower, the Trading Post, Dickson's Bible, Mixed Media (run by Brand Marwil who presumably founded Marwil's near Wayne State later) and Circle Books of Ann Arbor.

Gundella is also mentioned, of course, and she interjects that witchcraft is basically a religion if practiced in the old tradition and she believed that Jesus and the 12 disciples were in fact part of a witches coven.

Her daughter Veronica carried on her mother's legacy by opening Gundella's Witch Ways & Wares in 1997 before her tragic death in 1999.
